Introduction

The International Conference on Cutting-Edge Organic Chemistry in Asia (ICCEOCA) is an annual conference which is one of the activities of the JSPS’s Asian Core Programme (ACP) on Cutting-edge of Organic Chemistry Research.  The ACP program is designed to create world-class research hubs in selected fields within the Asian region, while fostering the next generation of leading researchers by establishing sustainable collaborative relations among research/education institutions in Japan and other Asian countries. Under the program, these “core institutions” will collaborate in cutting-edge fields of research and on research topics in organic chemistry deemed to be of high international importance.  The previous ICCEOCAs were held in Nagoya (2006), Okinawa (2006), Busan (2007), Hangzhou (2008), Bangkok (2009), Hsinchu (2010) and Hong Kong (2011). In 2010 in Hsinchu, the ICCEOCA organizer began junior conference, called the 0th International Conference on Cutting-Edge Organic Chemistry in Asia, prior to the main conference.  Since the main conference is organised for principal researchers from participating institutions to present their work, the junior conference is used as a platform for postgraduate students to present their research work.

The main aim of the Junior International Conference on Cutting-Edge Organic Chemistry (Junior ACP) is to create a new set of well-trained young organic chemists working in cutting-edge research as well as enabled them to begin networking early on in their career. The Junior ACP is planned to be held just before the main ICCEOCA to enable students to also participate in the main conference.

1st Junior International Conference on Cutting-Edge Organic Chemistry in Asia was held in Xiamen University, Xiamen, China on 9-11 December 2011, followed by the 6th International Conference on Cutting-Edge Organic Chemistry in Asia (ICCEOCA-6/NICCEOCA-2) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong from 11-14 December.

At the last international ACP committee meeting, Nanyang Technology University, Singapore was selected to host the 7th ICCEOCA while the University of Malaya was selected to host the 2nd Junior International Conference on Cutting-Edge Organic Chemistry in Asia.

The 7th International Conference on Cutting-Edge Organic Chemistry in Asia will be held in Nanyang Technology University, Singapore from 11-14 December 2012. Thus the 2nd Junior ACP will be held shall be held in the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur from 8-10 December 2012.
